Game objective
Complete every displayed rescue goal within the move limit. Place the offered pieces to connect matching symbols, clear required elements and obstacles, rescue listed pets, then use level rewards to progress through the shelter campaign.
Controls
- Select a piece from the hand and tap a valid board anchor to place it; highlighted cells show where the selected shape will land.
- Select a stocked tool, then choose its required row, column, cell, or conversion target. Touch and mouse use the same direct controls.
How scoring works
Public score combines the level's heart reward with remaining moves, so completing the rescue is more valuable than partial progress and an efficient win ranks above a last-move clear. Replays do not duplicate first-clear progression rewards.
Core mechanics
- Connected groups of matching cats, dogs, food, toys, and care symbols clear and advance the corresponding level goals.
- Cages, dirt, and other board conditions require adjacent clears or completed rows and columns before their goals resolve.
- Brush, flying disc, teaser wand, and heart-can tools provide limited targeted board changes when normal placement stalls.
- Campaign clears unlock the next level, add rescued pets to the album, and award hearts for shelter room repairs.
Common failure causes
- Spending moves on matches that do not advance the goals shown at the top of the level.
- Blocking large pieces by filling isolated board cells without maintaining open placement shapes.
- Using a limited tool early when the same obstacle could have been cleared by an ordinary placement.

Tips for Paw Match Shelter
- Check every active goal before placing the first piece; a large clear is wasted if it collects the wrong symbol.
- Keep the center and at least one long edge flexible so multi-cell pieces retain several legal anchors.
- Break cages with planned adjacent matches instead of surrounding them with unrelated tiles.
- Save targeted tools for a move that either completes a goal or restores legal placements for the current hand.
- On a failed level, review which goal remained incomplete and prioritize its symbol from the opening hand.
Frequently asked questions
How are pets rescued in Paw Match Shelter?
Pets are rescued by completing the goals attached to a campaign level. A successful clear records eligible pets in the album and unlocks the next stage.
What happens when Paw Match Shelter runs out of moves?
If required goals remain when moves reach zero, the level ends in a loss. Progress already saved outside the level remains, and the same stage can be retried.
Do Paw Match Shelter tools refill automatically?
Tools are limited inventory items rather than unlimited moves. Some progression can grant additional stock, so they are best reserved for blocked or goal-closing situations.
How can I tell whether a Paw Match Shelter piece fits?
Select a hand piece and move to a board anchor. The highlighted preview shows every cell the shape will occupy, and placement is accepted only when the complete shape stays on valid cells.
Does Paw Match Shelter save completed rescues?
Yes. Successful campaign clears unlock the next level, record eligible rescued pets, and preserve shelter progression outside the current board so a later retry does not erase earlier wins.
